 Bilingual Educational Project<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main goal<\/strong> of our bilingual project is to improve and expand the communicative competence<\/strong> in English of our students, in order to help them understand the world they live in and be able to communicate with people from different cultures. Hence, the goals set are the following: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Promoting coordination<\/strong> among the teachers who are part of the Bilingual Teaching Department.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ensuring the correct functioning and coordination with the native language and culture assistants<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Promoting the use of the English language to access information and culture <\/strong>in a constantly globalized world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Raising interest in participating in projects and activities organized by international institutions<\/strong> every school year (Global Classrooms, Erasmus +, Debate Tournament …).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Proyecto educativo Biling\u00fce<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Nuestro proyecto biling\u00fce se plantea como objetivo <\/strong> primordial mejorar y ampliar la competencia comunicativa <\/strong> de nuestros alumnos en ingl\u00e9s, con el fin de ayudarles a comprender el mundo en el que viven y comunicarse con personas de distintas culturas. Por ello, las metas que nos proponemos cada a\u00f1o son:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Fomentar la coordinaci\u00f3n <\/strong> entre los profesores que forman parte del Equipo Docente Biling\u00fce.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

      Bilingualism at Centro Cultural Salmantino<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Early Childhood Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The first contact with languages other than their mother tongue takes place in the early stages of education. The teaching of the foreign language is centered on comprehension and expression <\/strong>and is carried out through games, songs, social expressions such as greetings and farewells, poems, etc., in order to achieve a positive attitude towards the learning of the language. Therefore, contact with the language will be granted in at least one of the sessions every day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      We also have the support of the Language and culture assistant<\/strong>, who, together  with the teacher, is directly involved in this bilingual project, and practices the speaking skill through conversations with the students in small groups<\/strong>. It is also worth mentioning that since the school belongs to the BEDA kids <\/strong>plan, all students enrolled in Early Childhood Education, are tested their speaking skills at the end of this period of their education so as to check the acquired level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Primary Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The method used is based on communication, interaction and the emphasis on the oral code<\/strong>, without forgetting the written one. It is an immersion<\/strong> in the foreign language. Therefore, the use of the English language will be essential when communicating in class, encouraging verbal and non-verbal communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Our school has been carrying out activities to promote English since 2010 school year. Furthermore, it is also registered in the BEDA (Bilingual English Development & Assessment) program, an initiative in collaboration with Cambridge ESOL Examinations<\/strong> aimed at strengthening and improving English language teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      We have arranged organizational and pedagogical measures to ensure quality English teaching. For instance, the school suggests initiatives such as the performance of three bilingualism activities<\/strong> during this school year. Those responsible for these activities are native speakers who come to the school to interact with our students in different workshops. The program of activities includes storytelling workshops <\/strong>for the younger ones <\/strong>and escape rooms and role-plays<\/strong> for the older ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Secondary education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The objective in our secondary education stage is using the language fluently and naturally<\/strong>, in everyday situations, to understand and produce oral texts on specific topics, in a variety of accents, and standard styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Students will make themselves understood, express opinions or narrate events using an increasingly wide and specific vocabulary and with a greater degree of fluency and spontaneity. They will see English as a vehicle for communicating<\/strong> with speakers of other languages, for approaching other lifestyles and their own personal and professional interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      At this stage, students will do digital bilingual exchanges<\/strong> with students from foreign schools, mainly from the United States. These exchanges will be free of charge and with the aim goal that the students find a real purpose in speaking a foreign language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Educaci\u00f3n Infantil<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      El primer contacto con otros idiomas  se produce en la etapa de Infantil. La ense\u00f1anza de la lengua extranjera  se centra en la comprensi\u00f3n y la expresi\u00f3n <\/strong>, y  se lleva a cabo mediante juegos, canciones y actividades sociales como saludos y despedidas, poemas, etc., para lograr una actitud positiva hacia el aprendizaje del idioma. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Contamos tambi\u00e9n con el apoyo del auxiliar de conversaci\u00f3n<\/strong>,  quien junto a la profesora, se involucra directamente en este proyecto biling\u00fce. Tambi\u00e9n cabe destacar que gracias a pertenecer al plan BEDA Kids, todos los estudiantes matriculados en Educaci\u00f3n Infantil, son evaluados sus habilidades de expresi\u00f3n oral al final de este per\u00edodo de su educaci\u00f3n para comprobar el nivel adquirido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Educaci\u00f3n Primaria <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      El m\u00e9todo se  basa en la comunicaci\u00f3n, la interacci\u00f3n y el \u00e9nfasis en el lenguaje oral <\/strong>, sin olvidar el lenguaje escrito. Se trata de una inmersi\u00f3n <\/strong> en la lengua extranjera, por lo tanto, el uso del ingl\u00e9s ser\u00e1 esencial en la comunicaci\u00f3n en clase, fomentando la comunicaci\u00f3n verbal y no verbal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Desde el a\u00f1o 2010 llevamos a cabo actividades de fomento del ingl\u00e9s , el programa BEDA (Bilingual English Development & Assessment), una iniciativa en colaboraci\u00f3n con Cambridge ESOL Examinations <\/strong> destinada a fortalecer y mejorar la ense\u00f1anza del idioma ingl\u00e9s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Hemos implementado medidas organizativas y pedag\u00f3gicas para garantizar una ense\u00f1anza del ingl\u00e9s de calidad, como la realizaci\u00f3n de tres talleres anuales de biling\u00fcismo<\/strong>. Los responsables  son nativos que vienen al colegio a interactuar con nuestros alumnado en diferentes talleres. El programa de actividades incluye cuentacuentos <\/strong>para los m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os y  Escape rooms<\/strong> para los mayores. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      El objetivo en nuestra etapa de educaci\u00f3n secundaria es aprender  el idioma con fluidez y naturalidad <\/strong>, en situaciones cotidianas, comprender y producir textos orales sobre temas espec\u00edficos, en una variedad de acentos y estilos est\u00e1ndar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Los estudiantes se har\u00e1n entender, expresar\u00e1n opiniones o narrar\u00e1n acontecimientos utilizando un vocabulario cada vez m\u00e1s amplio y espec\u00edfico, con mayor fluidez y espontaneidad. Ver\u00e1n el ingl\u00e9s como un veh\u00edculo para comunicarse <\/strong> con hablantes de otros idiomas  y para abordar sus propios intereses personales y profesionales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      En esta etapa, los estudiantes realizar\u00e1n intercambios biling\u00fces digitales <\/strong> con estudiantes de escuelas extranjeras, principalmente de Estados Unidos. Estos intercambios ser\u00e1n gratuitos y su objetivo es que los estudiantes encuentren un verdadero prop\u00f3sito en hablar un idioma extranjero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Bilingual Courses at Centro Cultural Salmantino<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      As we mentioned before, bilingualism is being phased in one course at a time<\/strong>. \u200bThe number of academic hours per week allocated to bilingual lesson is broken down as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In Early Childhood Education<\/strong> we offer 5 hours of English on a weekly basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Students in Primary School <\/strong>receive the following subjects in English on a weekly basis: 5 hours of foreign language (English), 2 hours of Art Education (Music and Art) and 2.5 hours of Physical Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Secondary School <\/strong>has the aim to reinforce the use of English and oral interaction with communicative activities, preparing students for a near future in which they will live in an increasingly globalized, intercultural and multilingual world<\/strong>. The bilingual contents correspond to 9 hours <\/strong>of English per week: English Foreign Language (5 hours a week), Physical Education (2 hours weekly) and Computational Science (2 hours weekly).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Since 2010, apart from belonging to the BEDA Program, our school provides students from Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education the opportunity to take the prestigious Cambridge English exams recognized around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      As members of BEDA<\/strong>, the students at Centro Cultural Salmantino have the opportunity to sit standardized exams<\/strong> given by Cambridge ESOL<\/strong> at the University of Cambridge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Como mencionamos anteriormente, el biling\u00fcismo se est\u00e1 implementando gradualmente. El n\u00famero de horas acad\u00e9micas semanales asignadas a clases biling\u00fces se desglosa de la siguiente manera:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        En Educaci\u00f3n Infantil, <\/strong> ofrecemos 5 horas semanales de ingl\u00e9s. Los alumnos de Primaria <\/strong>reciben las siguientes asignaturas en ingl\u00e9s: 5 horas de lengua extranjera (ingl\u00e9s), 2 horas de Educaci\u00f3n Art\u00edstica (m\u00fasica y pl\u00e1stica) y 2,5 horas de Educaci\u00f3n F\u00edsica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        La Educaci\u00f3n Secundaria <\/strong>tiene como objetivo reforzar el uso del ingl\u00e9s y la interacci\u00f3n oral mediante actividades comunicativas, preparando al alumnado para un futuro pr\u00f3ximo en el que vivir\u00e1n en un mundo cada vez m\u00e1s globalizado, intercultural y multiling\u00fce <\/strong>.           The\u00a0perfectly bilingual person does not exi<\/strong>st. There will always be one language with which they feel more confortable, no matter how small that difference is.

          As professionals of ESL teaching, we do not hope to produce fully bilingual students in the sense that many people might imagine, and we ask the familias to have\u00a0realistic\u00a0expectations<\/strong>\u00a0too. This is very important in order to\u00a0avoid future frustrations\u00a0down the road.

          However, we strongly believe that we can help our children to\u00a0use English in a practical and natural way<\/strong>\u00a0and that it will become another\u00a0tool\u00a0for them in the\u00a0future. That is our aim. It is perfectly possible for our students to\u00a0reach very high levels\u00a0of English that will allow them to use either one without a problem.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
