El concurso “Spelling Bee” se asemeja a aquellos concursos de deletreo tan populares especialmente en Estados Unidos que probablemente hayamos visto previamente en alguna que otra película o serie.
Estudiantes de 1º, 2º y 3º de ESO compiten respectivamente con estudiantes de su mismo curso de otros institutos de la Comunidad de Madrid, deletreando palabras de variada (y, frecuentemente, alta) dificultad, exigiendo en los estudiantes un nivel de precisión y preparación bastante elevado.
La edición 2024 se celebró en el IES Gran Capitán, en el barrio de Usera, el miércoles 23 de abril. Acompañados por el coordinador bilingüe, los auxiliares de conversación Hannah y Michael, los 11 estudiantes seleccionados del IES San Cristóbal compitieron con los estudiantes de los IES Gran Capitán, IES Ciudad de Jaén, IES María Goiry Goiry, IES Isaac Peral, IES García Maroto e IES Pedro Salinas.
El concurso fue una competición bastante reñida, especialmente con los estudiantes de 3º de ESO; dos estudiantes, una de ellas del IES San Cristóbal, estuvieron compitiendo prácticamente a “muerte súbita” hasta que nuestra campeona demostró su aguante y habilidad, llegando a quedar en un merecidísimo primer puesto.
Además del concurso, los estudiantes pudieron disfrutar de dos talleres en inglés llevados a cabo por dos auxiliares de idiomas. En uno de ellos practicaron “mindfulness” al aire libre. En el otro los estudiantes formaron parte de un concurso de preguntas y respuestas dinámico y divertido.
Dos cosas quedaron claras en la última edición del concurso “Spelling Bee”: primero, el compromiso de nuestros estudiantes, con la victoria de nuestra alumna estrella de 3º de ESO y, segundo, las ganas que tienen nuestros estudiantes de participar de nuevo en 2025 en el IES Gran Capitán. Hasta que podamos ponerlo en práctica, estaremos deletreando, entre otras palabras, V-I-C-T-O-R-Y.
The «Spelling Bee» contest resembles those spelling contests so popular especially in the United States that we have probably seen previously in some movie or series.
Students of 1st, 2nd and 3rd ESO compete respectively with students from their same grade from other high schools in the Community of Madrid, spelling words of varying (and often high) difficulty, demanding a fairly high level of accuracy and preparation from every student.
The 2024 edition was held at IES Gran Capitán, in the neighborhood of Usera, on Wednesday , April 23rd. Accompanied by the bilingual coordinator, conversation assistants Hannah and Michael, the 11 chosen students from IES San Cristóbal competed with students from IES Gran Capitán, IES Ciudad de Jaén, IES María Goiry Goiry, IES Isaac Peral, IES García Maroto and IES Pedro Salinas.
The contest was a fierce competition, especially at the 3rd of ESO level— two students, one of them from IES San Cristobal, were competing practically «sudden death» until our champion showed her endurance and skill, coming in a well-deserved first place.
In addition to the contest, the students were able to enjoy two workshops in English conducted by two language assistants. In one of them, they practiced mindfulness in open air. In the other, the students took part in a dynamic and fun quiz contest.
Two things were clear from the last edition of the «Spelling Bee» contest: first, the commitment of our students, with the triumph of our star 3rd ESO student and, second, the desire of our students to participate again in 2025 at IES Gran Capitán. Until we can put it into practice, we will be spelling, among other words, V-I-C-T-O-R-Y.
