Last week, 20 students of 3ºESO took part in our Exchange Program with England, which has been taking place in our school for more than 12 years, in collaboration with Denmark Road High School in Gloucester.

It was a fantastic week, full of activities and those students who travelled to England were able to share time with their host families, practice a lot of English and visit several cities… they even visited two different countries!

We walked around London, got on the London Eye and visited some of the most important monuments of this giant and fascinating metropolis, where so many amazing stories have taken place.  We immersed ourselves in international cuisine in ZaZa Bazaar in Bristol and walked the cloisters of Gloucester Cathedral, where some of the most famous scenes from the Harry Potter films were shot. We crossed the Severn river into Wales and visited Cardiff Castle, a place full of history and stunning rooms. Finally, we finished our trip at the Roman Baths in the beautiful city of Bath and, even though we couldn’t swim in the thermal waters, we could easily imagine what it must have been like to use them thousands of years ago.

And yet, the best part of the trip wasn’t visiting cities or monuments, but the friendships and bonds that were made between our students and the English students.  They went bowling, went crazy with karaoke, walked around the English countryside, celebrated surprise birthday parties and got along so well…. that some of our boys and girls didn’t want to come back home!

Now, we only have to wait for the second part of the Exchange, when the girls from Denmark Road High School visit us in February because it’ll be our turn to show them our hospitality and how beautiful Madrid and its surroundings are.  However, we are completely sure that they will find the best things inside our school.

La semana pasada, 20 alumnos y alumnas de 3ºESO participaron en el Intercambio con Inglaterra, un proyecto que lleva organizándose en nuestro centro desde hace más de 12 años con las estudiantes del instituto Denmark Road High School, en Gloucester.

Ha sido una semana fantástica y muy completa, en la que los chicos y chicas que han viajado a Inglaterra han compartido tiempo en familias, han practicado Inglés y han visitado varias ciudades…. de hecho, ¡han visitado hasta dos países!

Paseamos por Londres, montamos en el London Eye y visitamos algunos de los monumentos más importantes de esta fascinante y gigantesca metrópoli, protagonista de tantas historias maravillosas.  Nos empapamos de la gastronomía más internacional en ZaZa Bazaar en Bristol y caminamos por los pasillos del claustro de la catedral de Gloucester, los mismos en los que se rodaron algunas famosas escenas de Harry Potter.  Cruzamos el río Severn para entrar al país de Gales y visitamos el castillo de Cardiff, un lugar lleno de historias y habitaciones espectaculares.  Finalmente, terminamos el viaje en los Baños Romanos de Bath y, aunque no pudimos sumergirnos en las aguas terminales, pudimos imaginarnos a la perfección cómo debió ser utilizarlos hace miles de años.

Y, aún así, lo mejor de todo no fueron las ciudades ni los monumentos, sino las amistades que han hecho entre ellos y con las alumnas de Gloucester.  Fueron a la bolera, lo dieron todo en el karaoke, pasearon por la campiña inglesa, celebraron cumpleaños sorpresa y se cogieron tanto cariño… ¡que algunos y algunas no querían volver a casa!

Ahora solo queda esperar la segunda parte del Intercambio, cuando las chicas del DRHS nos visiten en Febrero y nos toque a todos nosotros dedicarles nuestra hospitalidad y enseñarles todo lo bonito que tenemos en Madrid y sus alrededores.  Aunque lo mejor, sin duda alguna, lo encontrarán en nuestro centro.
